By JarranewsTV Staff Reporter Officers of the Basse Police Intervention Unit (PIU), in collaboration with joint security personnel stationed at the Yerobawol Checkpoint, have arrested a Senegalese national allegedly found in possession of a large quantity of suspected counterfeit United States currency. According to police reports, the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Sadia Ndome of Maleme, Senegal, was intercepted on Saturday, May 16, 2026, during a routine search operation at the checkpoint. Authorities disclosed that the suspect was travelling from Basse towards Senegal on a motorbike without a registration number plate when security officers conducted a search and reportedly discovered suspected counterfeit US dollar notes estimated at approximately USD 467,000. A bag containing clothes was also recovered during the operation. The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue into the origin and intended destination of the alleged counterfeit currency. The Gambia Police Force stated that it remains committed to conducting a thorough investigation and assured the public that updates will be provided as significant developments emerge in the case. The interception is being viewed as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat cross-border crime and illegal financial activities in the region.
