The Gambia Police Force has confirmed the arrest of a 24-year-old Senegalese national allegedly found in possession of ammunition during a routine night patrol operation in Amdalai, North Bank Region.
According to a police statement issued on May 21, 2026, officers attached to the Regional Task Force in Barra carried out the operation on Tuesday, May 19, leading to the arrest of the suspect identified as Amadou Bamba Ceesay.
Police said the suspect was apprehended at a brothel in the area with fourteen rounds of ammunition allegedly in his possession.


Preliminary investigations revealed that Ceesay claimed to be a member of the Senegalese Army attached to the Nemanding Military Base, located about 10 kilometres from Amdalai. He reportedly told investigators that the ammunition came into his possession following a change of guard at the military installation.
The suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue.
The Gambia Police Force stated that it remains committed to strengthening efforts to combat trans-border crimes and ensure sustainable peace and security across the country.
