The Gambia Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the laws of the land and safeguarding public morality following the arraignment of three individuals before the Basse Magistrate’s Court on charges relating to the trafficking of obscene publications.

On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, the Basse Prosecution Unit brought three Gambian nationals—Meta Sankareh, Nyima Kaba, and Roheya Jatta—before His Worship I. Dibba to answer to a charge of Traffic in Obscene Publication.

During the proceedings, the first and second accused persons, Meta Sankareh and Nyima Kaba, admitted responsibility and entered guilty pleas before the court. Following their admissions, the court ordered that both accused persons be remanded in custody pending sentencing.

The third accused person, Roheya Jatta, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The court subsequently admitted her to bail in the sum of One Hundred Thousand Dalasis (D100,000), with two Gambian sureties required to guarantee her appearance during the continuation of the proceedings.

The matter has been adjourned until Tuesday, June 16, 2026, when the court is expected to sentence the first and second accused persons while hearing continues in respect of the third accused person.

The prosecution represents another significant step in the ongoing efforts of the Gambia Police Force to combat criminal activities and ensure that individuals who violate the country’s laws are held accountable through due process.

Law enforcement authorities have consistently emphasized the importance of maintaining public decency and protecting communities from activities deemed harmful to societal values. The latest court action demonstrates the determination of investigators and prosecutors to pursue cases diligently and professionally in accordance with the law.

The Gambia Police Force has reiterated that it remains steadfast in its mission to prevent and combat crime through effective investigation and prosecution. Officials have further assured the public that all offenders will be dealt with fairly and firmly under the laws of The Gambia.

As legal proceedings continue, the case serves as a reminder that offences involving obscene publications are treated seriously under Gambian law and that the justice system remains committed to upholding public order, morality, and the rule of law.
