The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) has firmly rejected reports circulating online alleging a shortage of biometric passport booklets for Gambians undergoing documentation processes in Spain and Italy, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In an official statement, the department clarified that the information being shared is inaccurate and appears designed to cast doubt on the government’s ongoing efforts to provide essential services to Gambian nationals abroad.

According to the GID, the biometric enrolment teams currently operating in Spain are not responsible for issuing passport booklets. Their mandate is limited strictly to capturing applicants’ biometric data and processing enrolment. All completed applications from Spain and Italy, the department emphasized, are transmitted to The Gambia, where the passports are printed.

The department further assured the public that there is sufficient stock of biometric passport booklets within the country to meet the demand for all pending and future applications.

Since the commencement of the exercise on Monday, 27 April 2026, immigration officials deployed to Spain have been delivering services with professionalism, diligence, and respect for applicants. While acknowledging the high demand for passports among Gambians in Spain, the GID stressed that this has not disrupted or hindered the enrolment process.

Reaffirming its commitment to efficient service delivery, the department urged Gambians to rely on official communication channels, particularly the Public Relations Office, to avoid falling victim to misinformation that could undermine ongoing national efforts.

The statement was signed by Inspector Siman Lowe, Public Relations Officer of the Gambia Immigration Department.
