Recent political developments in the Foni region suggest a gradual but notable shift in influence within the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC). Observers indicate that the faction led by Hon. Alimameh Gibba, widely known for its “No to Alliance” stance, is facing increasing internal strain, as support appears to tilt toward the camp aligned with Hon. Fabakary Tombong Jatta.

The Jatta-led faction, which maintains an alliance with the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), is reportedly gaining momentum across key constituencies. This evolving landscape is being interpreted by some analysts as a sign of growing grassroots backing for President Adama Barrow ahead of the December 2026 presidential election.

Within the “No to Alliance” camp, signs of fragmentation have become more pronounced. The recent defection of prominent member Hon. Amith Colley has sent ripples through the political base in Foni, raising questions about cohesion and long-term viability. Additionally, another former National Assembly Member and influential figure within the group is said to have reconsidered his political alignment, further underscoring the shifting tide.

Former National Assembly Member for Foni Kansala, Buba Bojang, has publicly distanced himself from the “No to Alliance” faction, delivering a pointed critique during an APRC nationwide consultation meeting in Bullock. He accused his former colleagues of misleading supporters and fostering unnecessary divisions within the party.

Mr. Bojang argued that the faction lacks both the institutional capacity and appropriate channels to effectively engage the government on matters such as the potential return of former President Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh. He described such claims as unrealistic and cautioned supporters against what he termed “deceptive narratives.”

He further called for an end to tribal-based politics, warning that such divisions undermine unity and collective progress. According to him, even former President Jammeh is aware of inconsistencies in the intentions of some individuals claiming to act in his interest.
