By JarranewsTV Staff Reporter Prominent Gambian media personality and proprietor of Fatu Network, Fatou Camara, has issued a firm and measured response following GALA’s decision to withdraw her nomination from its awards process. Responding to the controversy, Fatou Camara clarified what she described as misconceptions surrounding her recent comments on governance and corruption in The Gambia. She emphasized that she never claimed the current administration is free from corruption allegations. According to her, she had publicly expressed concerns that any future commission established after President Adama Barrow leaves office could expose even deeper levels of corruption, given the allegations already surrounding certain government officials. “In my interview, I stated that I do not personally believe President Barrow is corrupt, and I still maintain that position based on my own observations and knowledge,” she explained. Fatou Camara further described GALA’s withdrawal of her nomination as a decision she respects, noting that the organization initiated the nomination itself. She also indicated that her media institution would never interfere with award processes, even if shortlisted nominees eventually emerged victorious. The veteran broadcaster used the opportunity to defend the editorial professionalism of Fatu Network, stressing that the platform continues to provide extensive coverage to organizations and individuals regardless of differing opinions or criticism directed at her personally. “At Fatu Network, we do not punish people for holding personal views,” she stated, adding that professionalism and fairness remain central to the media house’s operations. She also challenged what she described as intolerance toward opposing perspectives within activist circles, arguing that democracy and freedom of expression must allow room for differing opinions. “You cannot claim to stand for activism while rejecting views that differ from yours,” she remarked, while reaffirming her support for what she termed “reasonable activism.” Fatou Camara concluded by reiterating her commitment to speaking candidly on national issues, emphasizing that freedom of expression should be protected for all citizens and institutions alike.
