The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has officially announced Patrick Vieira as the new head coach for the men’s national football team. Vieira, a distinguished former captain for Arsenal and the French national team, assumes the role following the departure of Pape Thiaw, whose tenure concluded after Senegal’s disappointing exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The FSF confirmed Vieira’s appointment on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

This appointment marks a significant new phase for Vieira, who, despite being born in Dakar, Senegal, achieved his greatest international accolades representing France, including the 1998 FIFA World Cup and Euro 2000.

  A New Chapter for the Teranga Lions

Vieira inherits the reins at a pivotal juncture for Senegalese football.
