By JarranewsTV Staff Reporter The Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services on Tuesday welcomed a high-level delegation from the Republic of Poland in a landmark engagement that further strengthens the growing diplomatic and strategic partnership between The Gambia and Poland in the critical areas of information management, digital communication, and democratic resilience. The distinguished Polish delegation was led by Julita Baś, Chargée d’Affaires and Head of Mission, accompanied by Anna Rosenthal, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Dakar, and Hussein Diab Ghanem, Honorary Consul of Poland to The Gambia. The delegation was warmly received by the Honourable Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, alongside senior ministry officials including Deputy Permanent Secretary (Technical), Mr. Madiba Sillah; Deputy Permanent Secretary (Finance and Administration), Mr. Ebrima Sanneh; and Director of Information Services, Ms. Isatou Davies. The high-level discussions underscored the increasing international confidence in The Gambia’s democratic progress and the government’s unwavering commitment to building a modern, resilient, and credible national information system capable of responding effectively to emerging digital challenges. Central to the engagement was The Gambia’s ambitious efforts to operationalise the National Misinformation and Disinformation Response Center (NMDRC), a pioneering national initiative designed to protect information integrity, counter harmful falsehoods, and strengthen public trust in verified and reliable information sources. The dialogue focused extensively on enhancing the country’s institutional capacity to monitor, analyse, and respond swiftly to misinformation and disinformation within today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape. Discussions also highlighted the importance of coordinated national mechanisms capable of addressing information-related threats in real time. In a significant demonstration of international partnership and solidarity, the Polish delegation expressed readiness to support The Gambia through technical cooperation, operational assistance, and specialised capacity-building programmes aimed at equipping NMDRC personnel with advanced skills in information verification, digital monitoring, strategic communication, and data analysis. The proposed collaboration is expected to further position The Gambia as a regional leader in promoting responsible digital communication and safeguarding democratic values in the information age. Observers say the engagement reflects the visionary leadership of President Adama Barrow’s government in forging meaningful international partnerships that contribute to national development, institutional strengthening, and the protection of democratic governance. The National Misinformation and Disinformation Response Center is envisioned as a vital national institution dedicated to identifying and combating false and misleading information while enhancing citizens’ confidence in credible and factual communication platforms.
