In what has been described as the most successful overseas passport operation ever undertaken by the Gambia Immigration Department, the Government of The Gambia has achieved another major milestone with the successful completion of its 4th Diaspora Overseas Biometric Passport Mission in Spain.

The landmark exercise, spearheaded by the Gambian Embassy in Madrid under the leadership of Ambassador Noah Touray, brought relief and renewed hope to thousands of Gambians living in Spain and Italy, many of whom had struggled for years without valid travel documents.

According to the Embassy, nearly 2,000 Gambians were successfully enrolled during the mission, making it the first large-scale internationally conducted biometric passport issuance exercise of its kind for Gambians abroad.

The Embassy praised the professionalism, sacrifice, and tireless dedication of the Immigration Team led by Commissioner Gassama, revealing that officers worked from morning until late at night on several occasions to ensure no Gambian was left unattended.’

“This has been the most successful overseas mission conducted by the Immigration Department to date,” the Embassy proudly declared.

The operation has been widely hailed by members of the Gambian diaspora as another clear demonstration of President Adama Barrow’s commitment to improving public service delivery and strengthening ties with Gambians living abroad.

The Embassy also commended the unwavering support provided by Gambian community associations across Spain and Italy, whose collaboration helped guarantee the smooth and successful implementation of the exercise.

Special appreciation was equally extended to Mr. Kebba Touray, Executive Director of Africard, for his contribution to the success of the mission.

On behalf of Ambassador Noah Touray and the entire Embassy Team, heartfelt gratitude was conveyed to all Gambians in Spain and Italy for their cooperation, patience, and patriotism throughout the historic exercise.

For many Gambians abroad, the successful passport mission is more than just a documentation exercise — it is a symbol of inclusion, national pride, and a government increasingly responding to the needs of its citizens wherever they may be in the world.
