Banjul, The Gambia. Africa’s leading industrialist and the Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, has urged national governments across the continent to prioritize and expedite the process of industrialization. He characterizes this initiative as the most dependable avenue for generating millions of jobs, alleviating poverty, and fostering significant economic transformation.

During his address to delegates at the in Banjul, Dangote emphasized that the future economic prosperity of Africa hinges on the development of robust manufacturing sectors capable of harnessing the continent’s extensive economic potential while empowering its youthful demographic.

He asserted that industrialization serves as the most potent engine for sustainable development, noting that jobs in manufacturing are typically three to five times more productive than those in traditional agriculture. Additionally, he pointed out that each manufacturing position has the potential to create an extra five to six jobs across various associated sectors, including transportation, construction, finance, retail, logistics, and professional services, thereby inducing a substantial multiplier effect throughout the economy.

Dangote highlighted a significant challenge facing Africa: the necessity to generate approximately 20 million new jobs each year to accommodate the influx of young individuals entering the workforce. He expressed that public sector roles, agricultural initiatives, or extractive industries alone cannot fulfill the vast demand for employment opportunities.

He asserted, “Only industrialization can provide the scale, productivity, and multiplier effects needed to integrate Africa’s growing labor force,” and he implored African leaders to position industrial development as a core component of national economic frameworks.

Drawing on his extensive experience in constructing one of Africa’s largest industrial entities, the billionaire entrepreneur called for comprehensive policies aimed at promoting private sector investment, enhancing infrastructure, expanding manufacturing capacity, and encouraging added value to the continent’s rich natural resources.

He underlined the necessity for creating decent and sustainable employment as a fundamental aspect of Africa’s developmental agenda, positing that such an approach is vital for achieving inclusive growth, economic resilience, and shared prosperity.

Dangote’s remarks resonated profoundly with policymakers, development partners, and business leaders present at the African Caucus 2026, where participants reiterated the need for increased investment in manufacturing, industrial infrastructure, and regional value chains, key factors in accelerating Africa’s economic transformation.

His assertions highlighted the emerging consensus that a dynamic industrial sector, underpinned by effective public-private partnerships, is essential for establishing Africa as a competitive player in the global economy while enhancing the livelihoods of millions across the continent.
